Everything you want to know

Trip planning, vehicles, charging networks, pricing — all your questions about VoltNavigator answered.

How it works

How does VoltNavigator plan my charging stops?
The algorithm simulates your battery level kilometre by kilometre using your vehicle's real consumption data. It finds charging stations within a corridor around your route and validates each detour with an actual road distance calculation — so you never get sent on a 20-minute off-motorway detour to save 5 minutes.
How is VoltNavigator different from my car's built-in planner?
VoltNavigator compares prices across 20+ charging networks and can route you toward cheaper stations along your journey. Your in-car GPS doesn't tell you that the Lidl Charge station 3 km away costs €0.39/kWh versus €0.59/kWh at the motorway service area — VoltNavigator does.
Are the displayed charging times accurate?
VoltNavigator uses the actual charging curve for each vehicle model — not just a flat maximum rate. For example, a Tesla charges at 250 kW at the start but slows down as the battery fills. The app accounts for this to give you a realistic time, not an overly optimistic one.

Vehicles

Is my vehicle supported?
Over 100 EV models are pre-configured with manufacturer-accurate specs: Tesla, Renault (Mégane, Scenic, Zoé), Volkswagen, Hyundai, Kia, Peugeot, and most major brands sold in Europe. You can also add a custom vehicle with your own parameters.
Can I manage multiple vehicles in my account?
Yes. You can register several vehicles — handy for households with two EVs or to compare range profiles — and set one as your default.

Charging networks & stations

Which charging networks are covered?
20+ networks across Europe: Ionity, Fastned, TotalEnergies Charge, Electra, IZIVIA (McDonald's), Lidl Charge, Atlante, Tesla Supercharger, Recharge, Circle K, Mer, Eviny, and others. Per-kWh prices for each network and country are built into the app.
Is French charging station data up to date?
In France, VoltNavigator uses the official IRVE national registry (Etalab), supplemented by OpenChargeMap for international coverage.
Can I see whether a station is available before driving there?
Yes, for Premium users: VoltNavigator queries the TomTom real-time API to show the live status of each connector — available, occupied, or out of service — before you commit to a stop.

Route options

Can I see if a cheaper route exists for my trip?
Yes. VoltNavigator automatically calculates the fastest route (usually the most expensive) and simultaneously searches for an optimised route. If a cheaper option exists, the app shows you the saving in euros and any additional travel time — you decide which to take.
Can I prioritise my preferred networks (e.g. I have an Ionity subscription)?
Yes. The planning screen lets you select one or more preferred networks. The algorithm prioritises those networks within the route corridor before falling back to any available charger.
Can I add intermediate stops?
Yes, up to 5 intermediate waypoints in addition to your start and end points (e.g. stop in Lyon then Montpellier on a Paris → Nice trip).
What if I start with a half-charged battery?
You can set your starting battery level (SOC) in the planning form. The algorithm factors it in immediately when calculating your first charging stop.

SOS Stations

What is SOS Stations?
SOS Stations is an emergency charger-finder that locates available stations near your current GPS position — useful when you need to charge without a planned route. The app shows estimated charge time, cost, and real-time availability for each station.
Does SOS Stations only show free chargers?
VoltNavigator distinguishes four states: available, partially available, occupied, and out of service (a fault is not the same as a busy charger). You can judge whether it's worth waiting or looking elsewhere.

Pricing & subscription

Is VoltNavigator free?
There is a free tier: you plan your trip and the app shows you whether an optimised route exists, including the estimated saving in euros and any extra travel time. To see the full optimised route details, you can buy a single-trip credit or a pack — the Premium subscription pays for itself from the very first long trip.
What does the €4.99/month Premium subscription include?
300 trip calculations per month (10× the free tier), access to SOS Stations with real-time availability, and subscription management directly from the app. Cancel anytime, no commitment.
I rarely do long trips. Is there an option without a subscription?
Yes: pay per trip at €0.99 per journey, or buy a 5-trip pack for €1.99. Credits do not expire and bypass the monthly quota.
Are there promo codes?
Yes, coupon codes can add free trip credits to your account. If you have one, enter it directly on the payment screen in the app.

Account & data

Are my trips saved?
VoltNavigator keeps your last 10 planned trips. You can reopen them to re-launch a route without re-entering all the details.
Does the app calculate what I save compared to motorway charging?
Yes. VoltNavigator compares the cost of your chosen charging network against the reference motorway rate (~€0.59/kWh) and tracks your cumulative savings trip after trip. You can view your total savings in your profile.
